Healing Repressed and Forgotten Trauma.
Emotional healing isn't actually focusing on the past trauma events. Just confront your defense mechanisms.
There are 3 elements of our experience of reality. At any and every moment we are experiencing these 3 things: Thoughts, emotions, and sensations. You've probably heard me talk a little about that already. So, when you're talking about recalling the traumatic events, focusing on them, analyzing them, etc... Where does that take place? That's in the thoughts. Right?
But... the thoughts aren't where the problem is, right? It is fully possible to recall the events without being so triggered and hurt by them. That's what we're aiming towards in this healing. Great speakers, teachers, abuse victims who have healed and who help others can talk about their past trauma and recall the events without breaking down the way they once used to. And that's what we're aiming for.
So, if it's possible to have the same thoughts and not be in pain in the same way, then where is the pain? Where is the real problem? It's not in the thoughts, the memories, or the past. The pain exists right here and now. Not in the thoughts, but in the emotions and the sensations.
And when you spend all of this time trying to solve your emotions and your sensations by focusing on the thoughts then you are actually perpetuating the very subconscious cycle that has been causing your pain this whole time. You run from the emotions because they're uncomfortable.
Avoiding the emotions keeps your body in a stress response and creates a constant state of fight or flight.
This constant state of distress moves you into your thoughts, trying to analyze the pain and the problem. And focusing so much on the thoughts of all these terrible things creates more emotions. The emotions create more sensations. And around and around we go... in both directions.
So, if the pain and the problem isn't in the thoughts, and if focusing on the thoughts only perpetuates the problem, then... what do we do? We learn how to put the thoughts aside and how to focus directly on our emotions and sensations WITHOUT adding thoughts to them. By doing that, we can allow the body to finally go through the purging process it's been trying to go through this whole time.
Learn to focus on the PAIN itself... directly... WITHOUT moving to your thoughts. And then you can finally heal and be free.
